District outlines three-year plan to meet state bus seat-belt requirements under SB 546

Joe Hernandez, Maintenance and Transportation Director, and Ashleigh Castillo, District Safety and Compliance Specialist, briefed the board on Senate Bill 546, which amended Texas Transportation Code §547.701 to require three-point seat belts for all school-bus passengers, including drivers. The presenters described the district’s three-year plan for compliance and noted that districts unable to afford immediate upgrades are required to present cost and plan information to their boards.
According to the presentation, full compliance is required by Sept. 1, 2029. The item was informational and no board action was required at the March 30 meeting.
