Hafen Elementary outlines plan to reach three-star status, reports gains for Spanish-speaking students

Assistant Principal Derrick Yeoman presented Hafen Elementary’s improvement plan on Nov. 13. He reported Hafen is currently a two-star school and is targeting a three-star rating next year through instructional calibration, use of H&H reading/writing and Envision Math curricula, and implementation of student data walls.
Yeoman highlighted a notable gain among Spanish-speaking students: proficiency rose from 1 in 10 to 7 in 10 students. He also noted Hafen’s high staff retention rate (96%) and plans to adopt instructional realms and teacher-led in-services to raise instructional rigor and student discourse.
The presentation was introduced by Assistant Superintendent Genoveva Lopez-Angelo. Trustees discussed the strategies and congratulated staff for retention.
