Principal Greg Bailey presented a school spotlight to the Board on Nov. 13, reporting that Floyd Elementary advanced from a two-star to a three-star state rating, posting 58.5 points under the district’s reporting metrics. Bailey reported nonacademic progress as well: suspensions declined by 55% and overall behavioral referrals dropped by 65% after strengthening consistent discipline processes. He said departmentalizing fifth grade coincided with a 10-point gain in science scores. Bailey also warned that the loss of eight paraprofessionals is a significant challenge affecting classroom supports and instruction.
The spotlight was part of the Administrator’s Report introduced by Assistant Superintendent Genoveva Lopez-Angelo. Board discussion followed; trustees asked for follow-up data where appropriate.
