Chair Lawrence briefed the board on a recent City Council action to reduce the parks‑board membership back to nine positions, saying the board serves at the council's pleasure and that several long‑serving members were not renewed. "City council reduced the number back down to 9," he said, and he encouraged board members to thank departing volunteers for their service.
Lawrence also announced memorial events for Regina Nichols: a remembrance program on Saturday, March 21 (1–4 p.m., program begins 1:30 p.m.) at the Art Factory, 1125 Providence St., Houston, and a tree dedication on Monday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at Oyster Creek Trail near the YMCA parking lot at 4433 Cartwright. He asked staff to circulate details by email.
