"There were four different companies that bid on this work," a procurement staff member said, and the vendor that won "scored unanimously above the rest." Councilmember Burkholder told colleagues the contract represents a "huge win for the city," saying the award saves the city about $572,700 over the three-year term compared with previous spending.
During the consent-item discussion, David Ramirez of M3 Landscape Maintenance and Irrigation addressed the council, urging continued local purchasing and noting his company's two decades of local service. "When you choose M3, you are directly contributing to the local economy," Ramirez said. Council moved and seconded the award and the motion carried unanimously.
The council and staff said they are tracking related procurement savings across other projects and departments; one staff speaker estimated nearly $5 million in cumulative savings from a combination of bidding and system reviews to date. The contract award includes routine maintenance of turf and landscaped areas; the council did not discuss additional contract amendments or changes to service standards at the vote.
