Residents cite parking, traffic, noise and environmental threats in opposition to proposed Islamic center

Butch Grant told the commission a traffic-safety report showed high local fatalities and said the plan "does not provide an honest, transparent, and independent analysis" of vehicle trips. Pam Sarto reminded the commission Murphy’s noise ordinance (section 14.04) limits use of loudspeakers and raises enforcement-resource questions; she warned a noise study and additional police for traffic control can be costly. Several speakers—including Mike Hook and Rebecca Phillips—pressed for drainage, grading and environmental studies, warning the plan lacks clear stormwater mitigation and could harm Maxwell Creek.
Other speakers raised concerns about the scale of religious assembly uses and how cumulative activities (daily prayers, special events, education programs) could expand beyond what the site plan initially describes. The commission heard repeated requests for independent traffic and environmental studies and for fuller documentation of parking, utilities and site engineering before approval.
