Murphy City Council voted unanimously to authorize city staff to pursue FY27 SB 2024 catalytic-converter grant funding to support the city’s existing block-camera system.
Murphy Police Department representative explained the grant would fund current cameras and said the city’s annual share would be $3,000, paid from the Special Investigative Fund. The department characterized its theft problem as low and described access and oversight measures: “Previously, any participant in the FLOK program could have access to our cameras. We have now limited that to only to the state of Texas,” the representative said, adding that the department runs a 30-day audit and requires a case number before sworn officers can view footage. Council members asked about monitoring, compliance, and public reporting; staff said an annual report is the preferred venue for performance metrics.
The council approved the resolution to designate an authorized program director and financial officer to pursue the grant and proceed with the application process. No opposition was recorded.
