Nemaha NRD seeks to expand cost-share area for irrigation nozzle upgrades; Commission approves WSF scope change

Kyle Hauschild, General Manager of the Nemaha Natural Resources District, asked the Commission to approve a scope change for Water Sustainability Fund Project No. 10091 to expand the geographic area eligible for producer cost-share for more efficient sprinkler nozzles. Hauschild said participation in the initial area was lower than anticipated because many producers were unwilling to install meters, and the NRD wants to expand the offer into adjacent acres within the same aquifer.
Commissioner Kennon Meyer noted for the record that his law firm represents the Nemaha NRD but said the firm has not been involved with this particular project. Commissioner Doug Iske asked whether he could vote given his NNRD board membership; Commissioners confirmed Iske could participate because the scope change involves no additional funding and Iske would not personally benefit. Commissioner Don Batie moved and Steve Kelly seconded the motion to approve the scope modification; the motion passed. The change requires producers who accept the cost share to install meters as part of the efficiency package.
