Commission warned Legislature’s preliminary budget omitted Water Sustainability Fund spending authority

Commissioners were told during the Feb. 25 meeting that the Legislature's Appropriations Committee released a preliminary budget report that did not include the spending authority for the Water Sustainability Fund (WSF), though the Governor had recommended it. Director Bradley passed along the comment and "urged Commissioners to discuss the issue with their representatives" while staff said they will continue to monitor the budget as it moves through floor debate.
Staff also reminded commissioners that project status reports for active WSF awards are due April 1 and that the next application window is scheduled for March 16–31, 2026. The Commission said it will review the legislative outcome and determine at the April 29 meeting whether to proceed with application reviews if spending authority is not resolved.
