Board told state workers' compensation coverage required; premium to rise about $325

Executive Secretary Michelle Cothrun said the board previously maintained a private policy with ProGroup based on the understanding that the board's executive secretary (an independent contractor) would not be eligible for State coverage. "Subsequent clarification indicated that workers' compensation coverage procured by the Board must be obtained through the State policy," she said, and that "the annual premium would increase from approximately $720 to $1,045"; payment will be submitted before year-end to ensure compliance with the statutory requirement.
Board members discussed the clarification and the resulting increase in expenses but took no formal action at the meeting. The board flagged the change as part of broader conversation about rising operating costs and identified a future agenda item to review revenues and expenses to evaluate financial trends.
