Middletown adopts resolution to pursue Pennsylvania Audubon 'Bird Town' designation

Monica Tierney, interim Parks & Recreation director, described the Bird Town program’s objectives — creating and protecting habitat, reducing bird threats, engaging the public and promoting sustainability — and said the township would submit an application and pay a $100 fee. She said Bird Town initiatives complement existing township priorities such as stormwater management, climate action planning, and potential native‑tree ordinances. The board approved the resolution and encouraged collaboration between Parks, the Environmental Advisory Council and other partners.
Next steps: staff will submit the application, begin compiling annual FEATHR reports and consider initiatives (native tree planting, stormwater education, habitat improvements) to meet program criteria.
