The Alliance City Council discussed options for an alternate electric feedline on Feb. 17, receiving a presentation from Electric Superintendent Bridge comparing natural-gas and diesel generator systems. Bridge said natural-gas equipment carried higher upfront costs while diesel tended to have higher maintenance expenses; quoted prices included geostorage, with additional purchase costs anticipated.
Councilman Turman said the feedline should be capable of serving all customers, while Bridge noted the city can limit service to certain accounts (for example, irrigation) if needed. Bridge also reported that the grant writer is investigating potential funding sources to offset project costs. Austin Partridge of Northland confirmed that such a project could be financed through a bond. Mayor McGhehey suggested waiting to proceed until the new City Manager is in place so that the budgeting process can incorporate any decisions.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; discussion produced direction to revisit the issue with the incoming City Manager and to explore grants and financing options.
