Alliance council simplifies commercial refuse rates, effective April 1

On Feb. 17 the Alliance City Council approved Resolution No. 26-10 amending commercial disposal rates at the Alliance Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Facility. The rate updates follow a year-long rate study and several prior council discussions. The resolution sets a shared-alley commercial dumpster rate equal to the residential shared dumpster rate ($30.43 per month) and a single-use commercial dumpster rate at $77.47 per container per month; the changes take effect April 1, 2026.
Staff told the council most commercial requests will be weekly Friday service and that in alleys shared with residences some commercial dumpsters could be serviced twice weekly. Staff recommended against a special nonprofit rate, saying refuse costs do not differ for nonprofit entities and a reduced nonprofit rate would shift costs to other customers. Council voted Aye: Turman, Hitchcock, Yates, Mashburn and McGhehey; Nay: None.
City staff said current staff and equipment should handle modest increases in commercial customers and noted half the dumpster budget is being held in reserve pending demand.
