Council orders June 13 runoff for District 3 after May 2 returns

The council ratified an ordinance ordering a runoff election in District 3 after staff confirmed no candidate received a majority on May 2. Danielle Swint explained that "Pursuant to section 2.025, the Texas secretary of state designated Saturday, 06/13/2026 as the election date for all runoff elections resulting from an election held on a uniform election date."
Danielle certified that the two highest vote-getters for District 3 were Alicia Casillas and Scott Robert Peterson and recommended placing them on the runoff ballot. Councilor Jessica moved to ratify ordinance 20-26-18 and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The action orders early voting and provides notice of the runoff as required by state statute.
The runoff date is set by state statute for uniform runoff elections on the secretary of state's calendar; the city ordinance implements that schedule for the local contest. No challenges or scheduling changes were announced at the meeting.
