Board approves $6.75 million GMP to refurbish central plants at both high schools

The Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees approved a final guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $6,750,000 for the central plant refurbishment project at Rockwall High School and Rockwall Heath High School.
Mr. Carter explained the project replaces chillers, boilers, cooling towers and related controls for both high schools; Bergey, the construction manager at risk, presented the final scope and an additional $6,055,935 to reach the final GMP. Carter said the work is intended to improve reliability, reduce failures and yield energy savings from newer equipment. "That equipment's generally expected life expectancy about 15 years," the district’s project lead said when explaining why replacement was needed.
Trustees approved the final GMP and authorized the senior chief finance officer to execute a contract amended by the district's legal counsel. The administration said project funding will come from the 2015 bond authorization and that the total project cost was presented to the board as roughly $10.66 million including other project components and direct purchases.
