Council OKs $236,390 engineering contract for Town Center connector under I‑69

The Rosenberg City Council voted to approve resolution R4023, authorizing the city manager to negotiate and execute an agreement with BGE Incorporated for professional engineering services for the Town Center Connector Road under I‑69 at a fee of $236,390.

Staff said the connector will link Brazos Town Center phase 1 to phase 2 and is included in the Fort Bend County Mobility Bond and the city’s capital improvement plan. "This project will provide a roadway that will connect Brazos Town Center phase 1 to Brazos Town Center phase 2," a staff member said, noting Fort Bend County Mobility Funds will contribute $462,000 of eligible project cost and the Rosenberg Development Corporation $925,000 in support of the overall project.

Council members pressed staff on timing and intersection controls. The staff estimate for design was roughly nine months and will require coordination with TxDOT. When asked whether the new intersections would include traffic signals, the staff member said the new road would terminate at stop signs where it meets existing local streets. "The stop sign will be on the new road itself," the staff member said.

The motion to approve R4023 passed by voice vote; the chair reported the outcome as six in favor and one absent. The contract awarded by the resolution covers design services only; construction costs and additional approvals will follow as the project advances.

The council moved next to other agenda items; staff indicated the project is part of the county mobility bond and the FY2024 CIP.
