Council approved a resolution March 3 authorizing the city manager to execute a general services agreement with Neal Schaffer Inc. for engineering design work to rehabilitate the 1,000,000‑gallon elevated storage tank at 1300 Rodeo Drive at an amount not to exceed $107,200.
Staff described the scope of work as design, bidding and construction administration for interior and exterior blasting and repainting, corrosion repairs or replacements, rerouting cables and removing/reinstalling conflicting antennas and other appurtenances on the tower. "If approved, design is expected to start in March and take approximately 6 months to complete. Plan is to advertise in October or November, construction in December, January, and February," staff stated.
Council asked whether the tower would be out of service during exterior work; staff said it would be down for the duration of certain phases. A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; the council voted unanimously to authorize the agreement. The motion authorized design only; construction contracting will be sought later.
