Board learns SHAC updates and approves TEA flexible school day waiver for Quest Academy

The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) provided an information update to the board, reporting four SHAC meetings this year with members from parents, community, staff and teachers. Presentations included mental health topics, Youth Equipped to Succeed (YES) and a Boys & Girls Club program called "Esteem," which the presenter said would be available at no cost to the district through a grant and delivered by Boys & Girls Club staff with parent opt-in.
Separately, the board considered and approved a Texas Education Agency optional flexible school day waiver to allow alternative education campuses such as Quest Academy to record attendance at flexible hours and continue to claim full-day average daily attendance (ADA) for eligible students. Administrators summarized Quest Academy’s outcomes for the 2025–26 period, describing alternative accountability results and graduation counts. The waiver was approved as presented; the presenter noted eligibility criteria and described supports such as Truancy procedures and virtual counseling partnerships available to students.
