Rockwall County proclaims May 2026 Older Americans Month

The Rockwall County Commissioners Court on its May meeting proclaimed May 2026 as Older Americans Month and presented the proclamation to Margie Verhagen of Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County. Commissioner Lechte read the proclamation, which cites the 2026 national theme “Champion Your Health” and emphasizes prevention, wellness and community supports for older residents.
Margie Verhagen accepted the proclamation and thanked the court for ongoing support, noting construction of a new senior life center. “We are so excited about the next chapter for Meals on Wheels of our senior life center that is being built right now at 1780 Airport Road, and we will be able to serve so many for the next 50 years,” she said. The court encouraged residents to support local programs that promote independence, dignity and engagement for older adults.
