Administration presented a recommendation to promote Dr. Megan Gist from chief academic officer to deputy superintendent, calling her a long-serving district leader with roles across pre-K–12 and experience opening new campuses and establishing programs such as a marine junior ROTC.
Amy Hilton moved to approve the promotion; the motion was seconded and the board approved the change. "We sincerely appreciate your continued effort to commitment to supporting our substitutes in our district," Joie Byram said earlier in the meeting when recognizing staff and community partners; after the vote Dr. Gist addressed the board: "Thank you guys so much for this opportunity to serve Rockwall ISD in this new capacity. Your trust and support mean a great deal to me," she said.
The board recorded the approval and congratulated Dr. Gist as she was joined by family in the audience. No additional conditions or amendments to the status change were recorded.
