Parks staff unveils north-side trails connectivity plan, seeks board feedback

Danielle, Parks department staff, outlined a draft trails connectivity plan focused on areas north and east of Highway 6 and said trails have consistently ranked among residents’ top priorities in surveys. “Trails are consistently a top priority,” she said, adding that trails can improve public health and local economies.
Danielle said the city has about 15 miles of trails with key gaps and proposed a three-phase rollout: high-priority community connectors (Cartwright Road to Independence Park; Freedom Tree extensions; GCWA corridor to Roan Park), later city trail extensions (following waterways such as Oyster Creek) and smaller neighborhood connectors. She cautioned many proposed links are conceptual and will require fall site visits, easement reviews and environmental checks before being included in the official master plan. Board members pushed for departmental coordination and asked staff to provide pedestrian and bicycle count data to support prioritization.
