Council OKs sewer design work and water-pipeline leak assessment

The council authorized professional services with BGE for engineering design of the plant-interceptor gravity sanitary sewer main in a $670,900 agreement, described by staff as part of the East Lift Station project to upsize flows and add metering for verifiable system flows. "This line is currently an existing 18-inch gravity main...we are looking at about 6,300 linear feet of line ranging anywhere from 18 inches to 54 inches," staff said.
Separately, the council approved an in-service leak-detection assessment for the 24-inch treated water pipeline from the Taming Water Treatment Plant in a budgeted amount of $86,500 plus contingency (totaling approximately $95,000). Staff said the leak-detection work will help identify small leaks so repairs can be made before major failures, and the Utility Advisory Board recommended both items earlier in March (both motions passed 6–0).
