Midlothian council honors departing members and swears in returning and new officials

Mayor Justin Kaufman opened the May 12 meeting and framed a night of transitions, saying he welcomed both recognition of past service and the continuity of new representation. "We have a quorum of council presence, so I call this meeting to order," Kaufman said as the council began with remarks and proclamations honoring long-serving members.
Councilmember Alan Mormon spoke about his three years on council and thanked staff, colleagues and his family: "It's been an honor... and I loved it," he said. Judge Greg Wilhelm administered oaths for returning councilmember Richard Reno and newly seated Casey Cheshire; Mayor Kaufman also took the oath for his next mayoral term. The council presented proclamations honoring Mormon and Mike Rogers for their years of public service.
