At a joint meeting, Sunnyvale’s 4B Economic Development Board reviewed four proposed budget amendments and approved an amended package after members directed staff to remove or defer a requested $130,000 contribution toward School District (SISD) fencing and safety netting.
Mikaela (staff) summarized the requested amendments: roughly $124,000 of additions to the Vineyard project (including $9,000 for a fence, $20,000 for drainage and about $55,000 for a gate), $12,500 to finish a broadband study already underway, and a $130,000 request from SISD for fencing and safety netting. Staff characterized the $130,000 as the town’s portion of an SISD decision to upgrade the whole field’s fencing and netting.
Board members raised concerns about being asked to pay for work already completed or agreed to by the school district. One 4B member stated, “I have a problem with this extra $130,000, adding to that.” The board directed staff to subtract the $130,000 request from the package for now and to return with negotiation results or a clarified position for the school. After that adjustment, the board moved, seconded and approved the amended budget package by voice vote with five members present.
Staff said the $130,000 would be the subject of further discussion with SISD; if the board’s position is to decline payment, staff will notify the district. The board also asked staff to evaluate field‑use fees for Vineyard Park after construction is complete and to return any necessary fee proposals for review.
