Seward County allows supplemental filings for Thresher wind farm record, sets July 15 deadline

The chair said the board continues to receive correspondence and added that legal staff must receive all material to ensure it is included in the record.

Commission staff noted the record has grown substantially and that individual commissioners were receiving material; staff and legal counsel emphasized centralizing submissions so the attorney can add them to the record. A county staff member told the board, “She just wondered if you guys are reviewing the record and if you know when you might be putting it on the commission agenda to make a decision.” The motion to allow supplemental filings and set the July 15 deadline passed unanimously.

Public letters and suggestion cards read into the record at the meeting included both pro‑wind and anti‑wind positions. One written submission summarized community opposition: "A survey conducted within the county indicated that approximately 75% of respondents oppose wind turbines," while other letters from landowners described expected economic benefits. Commissioners instructed staff and counsel to ensure any supplemental information is submitted to county attorneys so it may be formally added to the project record before the deadline.
