Sheriff Garrett described last year's grant as enabling the county's first-responder drone program and said the new application seeks continued funding for cameras, drones and a DFR base station. "This is the same grant through the same organization," the sheriff said. Commissioners asked about theft statistics and whether the equipment had helped solve cases; the sheriff said cameras and vehicle-deployed drones had yielded success stories but full DFR deployment is still ramping up.
Commissioner Gallano moved to approve the application with match funds to be taken from Fund 51 rather than the general fund; Commissioner Lickdy seconded and the motion passed 5–0. The court also asked staff to ensure permission and agreements are obtained before placing equipment on private properties such as church lots or shopping centers.
The county noted the grant application deadline (staff reported it was due May 8) and that any agreements with TxDOT or private-property owners would come back to the court as needed.
