Commission adopts 2026 production limit, raising cap to 195,623 barrels

The Alcoholic Beverage Commission on March 24 voted to adopt the 2026 annual production limit, adjusting the cap to reflect state population growth.
Special Counsel Matt Diamond explained that under the Alcoholic Beverage Code the commission "shall, by order, annually adjust the production limit ... in an amount that is equal to the percentage of the state's population growth" as determined by the Texas State Demographer. Using a 1.2% growth figure for 2025, he said the calculation increases last year's 193,303 barrels by about 2,320 barrels to a new limit of "195,623 barrels."
Commissioners moved and seconded the item and the chair recorded the vote, announcing the motion carries. The adopted order updates the commission's statutory limit for production capacity for the coming year; counsel said the calculation had been checked by staff.
