"It's primarily left up to the local communities to choose how they would like to celebrate," Doyle said, and noted the program supplies logos, marketing material and a monthly theme calendar (May: arts and culture; June: parks and natural resources; September: sports and recreation; November: remembering veterans). Council members emphasized local control over how the city will participate; the resolution passed, with Mr. Alvarez recorded as abstaining.
