The Police Chief presented a request to authorize use of federal equitable-sharing funds from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (fund 702) to support equipment, training, officer wellness and community-engagement activities such as a Citizens Police Academy and Teen Summit. The chief said the funds come from the federal equitable-sharing program and would be reinvested "directly back into our community, strictly public safety, enhancing transparency and engagement."
Committee members said they had asked about past administration of the trust fund and noted changes explained by the chief resolved committee questions; both Safety & Public Works and Finance recommended unanimous support. Council voted to approve suspension and enactment; the motion carried on a unanimous roll call.
