Committee presses county to inventory, prioritize and repair missing no-wake and waterway signs

Committee members raised multiple citizen reports of missing or mislocated no-wake, no-glass and no-ski signs in Marquis Basin, Blackwater River and other areas. A sheriff’s marine lieutenant said crews have been documenting missing signs with GPS and will supply a list to county staff so the records can be compared to permit files.

Shelley Alexander said FWC removed the public map that showed permitted waterway markers and the county maintains individual permit files; she recommended incorporating permitted waterway signage into the county maintenance database so responsibility is clear. Committee members asked for a visible inventory and a prioritization system; one member noted the county has funds and suggested using a "stoplight chart" (green/yellow/red) to track sign condition and target repairs. A deputy emphasized timely replacements are needed, saying the priority is "getting them replaced in a timely manner."
