The Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees approved Action Item 6B, policy CQD, which establishes guardrails for the district’s use of artificial intelligence in classrooms. Presenter Patrick told trustees that "teachers will have access, but as of right now, we're asking that students not have access until we can truly define what it looks like for students in our classrooms." Trustees discussed training needs for staff and the absence of statewide TEA guidance on student use of AI.
During follow-up discussion trustees asked which districts Rockwall ISD is collaborating with on AI; staff said they are researching practices from larger districts and learning from conferences and pilots. Staff also said Google Gemini will remain disabled for student access in the 2026–27 school year while the district develops implementation protocols and training.
