Council members debated whether to require a new petition or a fresh traffic count; staff said a traffic study done about two years earlier did not meet the city’s speed criteria. Several council members argued the prior petition should remain valid. Mayor and multiple councilors voiced support for helping the block’s residents.
After discussion about petition validity and costs, Councilor Jessica moved to approve the item and the motion was seconded. The mayor announced the motion passed with six votes in favor and one abstention. Council directed staff to proceed with the work to install three speed humps and noted removal would be possible if necessary.
The decision uses the signatures gathered previously; staff said construction for three humps will proceed and estimated the installation cost at $8,700 for three humps as discussed during the meeting.
