Sheriff's office remodel remains under budget; court approves subcontractor change orders and sets Sept. 2 completion target

County construction staff updated the commissioners on the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office renovation, reporting roughly $2.6 million in construction costs through March and ongoing work to reconcile structural and equipment issues. Project manager Nikko said permitting delays, equipment procurement and structural coordination affected schedule but that construction remains "under budget" to date.
Nikko reported long-lead items (electrical gear, lighting fixtures, storefronts) are arriving and that furniture procurement will be handled separately; he said AC cassette design revisions and generator programming issues are being resolved through supplemental instructions. The court approved proposed subcontractor change orders (PCO 16, 17, 18 and 21) related to entryway revisions, signage and interior finishes and instructed staff to submit a prime contract change order in the next court session; the work includes a revised substantial-completion target of September 2. Commissioner Stacy pressed for daily-superintendent sign-in data; Nikko said the superintendent Jonas Lovett is on-site daily and staff will research sign-in mechanisms.
