Sheriff’s remodel continues; court approves Securus amendment and smart‑key quote

Niko, the project manager on the sheriff’s remodel, told commissioners the project is progressing through finishes and installations and is currently performing under budget. "We are currently performing under budget," Niko said, adding that the project has spent just over $3,000,000 to date and that staff are waiting on furniture procurement dates to finalize schedule milestones.

Sheriff Garrett briefed the court on two procurement items. First, he explained a proposed 6th amendment to the county’s master services agreement with Securus Technologies Inc., the contractor that provides inmate phone and tablet services, citing recent FCC rule changes that affect fees and collection practices; the amendment would extend the contract for one year. The motion to approve the Securus amendment was made and passed 5–0.

Second, the court reviewed a quote (number 7466) from Key Warden Systems Partners LLP to supply additional smart-key hardware and supplies for two additional detention officers; sheriff staff indicated commissary funds would cover the purchase. The court approved that quote 5–0.

The sheriff’s office plans to continue resolving minor quality-control items (AC units, drywall pricing) and to coordinate hardware and crane scheduling for the next work phases.
