Plainview council adopts school-zone ordinance on first reading to reflect new school locations

The Plainview City Council on Feb. 24 adopted on first reading an ordinance updating school-zone boundaries to reflect changes in local school locations and roadway conditions.
Public Works Director Veil Williams presented the ordinance as an amendment to Chapter 12 (traffic and vehicles), Article 12.07.5 (school zones), explaining that recent PISD construction and demolitions have altered where school zones should apply. Williams said the high school and collegiate zones remain unchanged, that Lakeside is no longer listed after school moves, and that TxDOT removed the school zone across U.S. Highway 70; updated maps accompany the ordinance. "This would be the first reading for the school zone ordinance," Williams said.
Mayor Pro Tem Weiss moved to adopt "ordinance 26 37 83" on first reading, seconded by Council member Rascon. The mayor announced the vote as unanimous and stated the ordinance was approved on first reading.
