Petersburg City Council on April 28 approved adjustments to multiple FY‑26 funds, including a general fund transfer to schools and several new and adjusted grants that together add roughly $4.3 million to the grants fund.
Gary Cozier, budget manager, told council the general fund amendment includes a $235,000 transfer for upgrades to a high‑school locker room. New and adjusted grants listed in the meeting included a Virginia Department of Health lead services grant for $3,068,400; an Environmental Protection Agency Pool Creek Force Main grant for $959,752; a $250,000 increase to an Operation Ceasefire police grant; and a $22,500 Rescue Squad Assistance Fund award for the fire department. Cozier said the total amendment to the grants fund would be approximately $4.3 million.
Council approved the amendments on motion with no public comment. Cozier added that the proposed budget will be posted to the city website within days and community budget meetings are scheduled ahead of the public hearing next month.
