The North Las Vegas Veterans Community Commission recognized multiple veterans, businesses and supporters during its regular meeting. Wilson Ramos and commission members presented veteran-of-the-month awards (December: Brian Darby; January: Dan Kamanao; February: Eric Swanson) and named Grand Canyon University, Archwell Health and the Foster Care Chamber of Commerce as veteran businesses of the month.
The commission also named Walter Lazcano veteran of the year for his leadership in opening the Veterans and Community Resource Center, and presented the veteran supporter of the year award to Sue Phelps, publisher of Veterans Reporter News. The mayor offered brief congratulatory remarks and praised the commission’s work.
Staff highlighted the center’s collaborative approach and encouraged organizations with resources to engage with the center. No formal city policy or budget action was taken during the awards presentation; the recognitions were ceremonial and intended to spotlight local service.
