AARP Foundation Tax-Aide outlines free tax-prep services for veterans at the resource center

Bob Fishman, state coordinator for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, described the free, volunteer tax preparation service and thanked the resource center for hosting the program. "We do last year, we did about 1,200,000 tax returns around the country. In Nevada, we did about 10,000 tax returns," Fishman told the commission.
Fishman said the program is grant-supported (IRS grants to the national program), staffed by volunteers and provides free service to veterans and the public. He invited volunteers to help with returns and noted AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has worked at the resource center for three years.
Fishman also referenced complementary volunteer tax-prep services (VITA) that operate in parallel and emphasized the group's focus on serving veterans who have relatively simple returns and should not need to pay for basic preparation.
