Universal City council authorizes application for $21M reuse waterline grant from Texas Water Development Board

Council approved a resolution authorizing staff to submit a $21,000,000 grant application to the Texas Water Development Board for reuse waterlines. Staff described the program as a large state fund—"like an angel that has fallen out of heaven"—and said the city plans to request the full $21 million for design and construction of reuse lines to reach parks, Walmart and other facilities on the city's west side. Staff said there is no local match for the program.
A council member asked if the grant would offset current and planned potable water use in parks; Randy (staff) answered, "That is that is a goal." Staff noted the city had previously been awarded planning funds for modeling and design and that tying into CCMA water sources could increase available reuse supply. The council approved pursuing the grant by resolution.
Staff said the grant would support planning and construction work to extend reuse water infrastructure and that future steps would include design work and coordination with neighboring water providers.
