The Cambridge School Committee voted to close a special meeting and enter an executive session to conduct a strategy session in preparation for contract negotiations with nonunion personnel.
Mayor Denise Simmons read the official call and told attendees that the committee "will not reconvene in open session, and there will be no public comment." She said votes may be taken in executive session and the virtual meeting would be live-streamed at www.cpsd.us and on Cambridge Education TV channel 26 before the committee switched to a private Zoom link.
A motion "to close the special meeting and go into executive session" was approved by the affirmative vote of five members, the mayor said. The secretary called the roll during the vote: Vice Chair Hunter (present/yes), Member Rachel (absent), Member Rojas (present/yes), Member Harding (absent), Member Hudson (present/yes), Member Weinstein (present/yes), and Mayor Denise Simmons (present/yes). The committee indicated Attorney Melissa Murray would advise the executive session and that Mr. Murphy would join from 12:15 to 12:30.
The committee closed the public portion and moved to the private Zoom link for the executive session. The committee said it would not return to open session and that no public comment would be taken.
