The Sunnyvale 4B board reviewed a request to add a programmable 30-foot LED Christmas tree and related electrical upgrades to support events at Town Hall and Town Center Park.
A staff member explained the options: "So we only need 4,500, and that's just to add a brand new circuit, and most of that's running the line down here," the staff member said, adding that the $60,000 figure would fund additional capacity and a new service along Trip Road for future growth. Staff also noted that the town currently spends about $15,000 a year renting generators for large events and that installing new service could reduce that recurring cost.
Board members asked whether an LED tree would require the full proposed upgrade because LEDs use less power; staff said the immediate Town Hall circuit could be completed for roughly $4,500 while a larger park-facing service that supports broader programming would require substantially higher investment. Staff proposed providing written quotes and lifecycle cost details in the budget packet to allow the board to compare buy-vs-lease options.
