Town planner outlines schedule, outreach for Imagine Sunnyvale plan; open house set for May 16

Town staff gave an update on the Imagine Sunnyvale comprehensive plan during a May 11 work session, saying the project is roughly two-thirds complete and that outreach so far has included kickoff events, a month-long online survey and a visioning workshop. "We'll have a open house come and go format starting at 07:00," the presenter said, and indicated consultants will be on hand to show draft chapters and key policy recommendations.

Staff described the public input collected to date as the basis for draft policy recommendations, noting some stakeholder interviews were published only in aggregate to protect confidentiality. The presenter said the project team will hold a steering-committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. the same day as the May 16 open house so council members who serve on the steering committee can review materials, and that a final presentation to planning and zoning and council is planned for late September or early October. Council members pressed staff about how consultant recommendations would be weighed against developer interviews and broader survey responses; staff reiterated the council retains final authority on plan adoption.
