Stafford MSD marks World Down Syndrome Day with districtwide events and classroom activities

A district presenter explained that the school community will observe the awareness day March 20 with blue and gold dress and a "rock your socks" campaign so that colorful socks spark conversations about inclusion. "World Down Syndrome Day was created to celebrate the lives of people with Down Syndrome and to make sure they have the same freedoms and opportunities as everyone else," the presenter said. Staff also announced a virtual read-aloud of the book Completely Toby and a family portrait assignment to encourage at-home conversations about differences and belonging.
Parents and a student joined the presentation and described classroom practices and respectful language guidance. One parent said the district theme for 2026 is "together against loneliness," and emphasized that inclusion requires more than a seat at the table: it means direct engagement and equal access to activities. The board thanked presenters and asked administration to continue annual celebrations and share supporting materials with campuses.
