City Council adopts 2027 tax budget on first reading; projects $2.3 million shortfall

The Shaker Heights City Council adopted a resolution on first reading to submit the 2027 tax budget to the Cuyahoga County Budget Commission.
Director Potts said the tax budget is the city's first estimate of fiscal resources and needs and is required under Ohio law. He reported: "We estimate revenue of 68,400,000. We estimate expenditures of 70,800,000 showing a shortfall of 2,300,000." Potts said the proposed budget assumes continuation of current property tax millage and that the budget had been available for public inspection and advertised in June.
No members of the public spoke on the tax budget during the hearing. Council moved adoption on first reading, recording unanimous ayes on the roll call. The administration said it will return in the fall with the formal request to levy property taxes for the 2027 fiscal year.
