Director Braverman said the project area lies within a low‑to‑moderate income area or improvement target area and that the city plans a variety of traffic‑calming techniques chosen after public meetings. Braverman presented traffic counts and speed data, noting: "We found that 25% of drivers going eastbound were violating the speed limit and those going westbound, 48% were, violating the speed limit, with many drivers going over 40 miles an hour." She said engineering and design work must be completed before grant award and estimated engineering costs at $22,000 to be funded from the planning department.
Council members on Safety & Public Works and Finance committees recommended approval; members asked staff to compile a consolidated list of city traffic and safety efforts to share with residents. The council approved the grant applications under suspension to meet the county deadlines.
