Brady Steckel, a fire department representative, told the commission the department has “had 23 fires since the February 1,” and that forecasted wind and dry conditions mean staff expect to issue few or no burn permits in the coming weeks. Commissioners agreed to extend the existing burn ban to maintain public safety while conditions are reassessed.
Commissioner Lauderback moved to adopt the resolution and Commissioner Metwin seconded; the chair called for a voice/raised-hand vote and the motion passed unanimously. The resolution was described at the meeting as a temporary public-safety measure tied to weather forecasts and recent fire activity. The commission scheduled a review of the ban at the next regular meeting on May 4, 2026.
