Council reviews proposed changes to commercial building improvement grant; refers suggested edits to LDC
Summary
Council reviewed proposed updates to the Local Development Corporation's commercial building improvement grant (historically $5,000 at 50/50 match), suggested adding limits on nonpermanent landscaping and allowing parking-lot pothole repair, and asked staff to return recommended language to the LDC for revision.

Staff presented proposed changes to the Local Development Corporation’s commercial building improvement grant program and council discussed suggested edits to the policy language.
"Heretofore our program has been $5,000 as a 50 50 match," staff said, summarizing the existing framework and the revisions the LDC had approved. Council members urged the LDC to restrict nonpermanent landscaping materials (for example, pressure‑treated ties that rot) and to explicitly allow parking‑lot patching and pothole repairs as eligible activities.
Council asked that whoever makes the motion and second be willing to accept an amendment recommending those changes and that staff forward the suggested edits back to the LDC for formal revision. The council then voted to recommend the changes and refer the policy back to the LDC for final language and approval.
