Residents say proposed homes would change neighborhood character and strain local services

A string of residents told the planning commission the proposed change from R-25 to R-20 would alter neighborhood character, reduce privacy for existing homes and could depress property values. Chris Hook said the possibility of 20–28 new homes directly behind existing yards would erode the privacy that drew many residents to the neighborhood and warned it could drive families away.
Michelle Steele and other commenters raised local public-safety and service concerns, saying they already experience power outages, limited police presence and strained fire and emergency coverage. Staff and commissioners replied that the commission’s vote is a lot-size recommendation; they encouraged residents to bring their concerns to the City Council hearings that follow.
