"We're at about 80% completion in our current state," the presenter said, adding that the campus will open with 147 licensed beds overall but not all will be staffed at day one. He said the campus will include a 28‑bed emergency department, operating rooms and neonatal intensive‑care capacity. Council members asked whether patient rooms would be private; the presenter confirmed that all rooms will be private.
University Health also told the council the project represents a roughly $1.5 billion investment across new hospitals and multispecialty clinics and that about 75% of construction work was being performed by local vendors. The presenter said the system plans a small teaching component in collaboration with the University of the Incarnate Word and local clinics. Council members thanked the presenter and noted the campus will expand local access to women's services, STEMI and trauma care.
