Chamber of Commerce urges donations as fireworks fundraiser nears goal

Sherry King, president of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, told the council the Chamber continues to promote local businesses through monthly recognition programs, ribbon cuttings and an ambassador program of about 39 volunteers.
"This year will be the 45th anniversary of our July 2nd fireworks," King said, and the Chamber is working to raise $21,000 for the event. Executive Director Tanya Cassie added: "As of today, we have about 17,000." The Chamber also reported $5,550 raised this year for small public-education mini grants, awards to local teachers that range from $50 to $300, and continued support for Leadership Plainview and a $1,000 Raymond Aiken agriculture award for a Plainview High School senior.
King said the Chamber's membership stands at about 396 and highlighted a new digital sign and a "Discover Plainview" map intended to help visitors find local businesses. Council members thanked the presenters and had no formal action; the mayor noted the report was received for the record.
The presentation included routine event updates (business-after-hours networking, a sold-out Chamber banquet and community ribbon cuttings) and an appeal for continued donations toward the fireworks fund. The council did not take action on the report, but members acknowledged the Chamber's community outreach and fundraising role.
